KFAC is owned and operated by the Winthrop Friendship Alliance church for the community of Winthrop as a way of investing in our local community while sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Our radio station operates under the provisions of the FCC part 15 regulations. We are transmitting with FCC type certified LPAM Part 15 transmitters with a specified carrier power of 100mW on 1610kHz & 1700kHz.
The coverage pattern includes all of Winthrop and the surrounding outlying areas. Signal reports are showing a 1.5 mile coverage with some reports of 3-5 miles on an automobile radio. We also are broadcasting in Twisp and Entiat and are continually looking to extend our coverage. We are using Hamilton AM1000 LPAM transmitters, click here for a short pdf on their transmitters.
Here are some tips for AM Radio reception: Reception Tips , Reception In An Office Building, Radio Noise Problems, Radio Noise Problems 2. A loop antenna can really help bring in the signal, some examples on the market: Antenna 1, Antenna 2. For those 'do it yourselfers' out there, here a few that you can build yourself: Hulaloop antenna, Boxloop antenna. For those that would like to build their own but lack experience, consider contacting the local amatuer radio club as a source of antenna experience.
Currently our broadcast material is a mix of Christian: country, bluegrass, contemporary and gospel music with teaching and old time radio shows such as 'The Shadow', and 'The Challenge of the Yukon' being aired at specified times. For now the studio is in automated broadcast mode using TuneTracker Command Center 4.0 as we continue to build out the station. (Due to regulatory controls on internet streaming and the associated fees and expenses that go hand in hand with such regulations, we are concentrating our resources toward our radio broadcast facilities as first priority, then onto our world wide presence. So keep checking our website for updates as in the future you can expect to find an internet stream link to our station broadcast audio posted on this page.)
We expect to be adding many more programs to our broadcast schedule as we work on our programming. To see our programming line up click here.
Our motivation is to be a blessing to the local community, please feel free to contact us with your suggestions and requests on how we can best serve you, our community.
Our broadcast coverage will increase as we network our transmitters into the Methow Valley community.
If you are in the towns of Winthrop, Twisp or Entiat, please tune in!
